SCRIPTURE LESSON:
Luk 11:5-9 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; (6) For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? (7) And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. (8) I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. (9) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
OTHER SCRIPTURES:
Luk 18:1-8 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; (2) Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: (3) And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. (4) And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; (5) Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. (6) And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. (7) And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? (8) I tell you that he will avenge them speedily....

Seek, and ye shall find. (Matthew 7:7)
Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Luk 12:22-24, 27, 29-31
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?...(27) Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these....(29) And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things..
(31) But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Luk 12:22-24, 27, 29-31

Which of the following are Needs?
and Which are Wants?
Some of our "needs" now look like "wants" don't they?
----
Luk 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's
good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Php 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus

Ask, and it shall be given you.
I brought homemade mini-muffins to treat the children, and told them they would need to say, "May I have a muffin please." When they did, I replied, "Ask, and it shall be given you."
Luk 11:9-13 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (10) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
I had already given them the bread, so I had stones, a pix of a fish, a rubber snake, a hard boiled egg, and a plastic scorpion in my apron pockets as I explained the next verses.
(11) If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? (12) Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? (13) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
God is our Heavenly Father and He knows our needs even before we ask, but he still commands us to Ask. (Mat 6:8, Mat 7:7)
When we read the next verse, we may get all excited and start telling Jesus what we want!!
Joh 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (But Jesus isn't a Santa Claus)
The scriptures have some guidlines about how we need to ask:
1. Ask in prayer, believing (Mat 21:22)
2. Ask in Jesus name. that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14:13,14)
3. Abide in Christ & His Words abide in you. (John 15:7)
4. Ask in Faith, nothing wavering. (James 1:6)
5. Keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (1 John 3:22)
6. Ask according to God's will. (1 John 5:14)
7. Do not ask amiss (selfish or wrong reasons) (James 4:3)
Our Heavenly Father loves us and wants only our good. Sometimes He says "Yes" because it will bless us! Sometimes He says "No", because it may be against his will, because it may hurt us, or because it will teach us to rely on Him. Sometimes He says "wait a while" because it teaches us patience and He wants us to trust Him.
We need to believe and trust God.

Ask..Seek...Knock
Our service theme for the next few Sundays will be:
A sk
S eek
K nock
In the effort to build up and increase our children's Faith, I would like to encourage parents to share their "Faith Stories". We often share them during testimony time with our church family, but neglect to remind our children of them often.
For small children, an excellent time to do this is during your normal bedtime story/devotional time; for older children during dinner time, devotion time, or in the car. By sharing and remembering often what God has done for your family, your extended family, and church families...the miracles, the healing, the answered prayers...your child's Faith will be strengthened and yours will also.
It doesn't matter if your child already knows the story...just start off with...."Remember when the Lord did this for us." Reminding them of the Lord's goodness will lay memorial stones of Faith for them live by.
Jos 4:5-7 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel: (6) That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? (7) Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
Sometimes, our children come to us and want us to pray for the "impossible" and our hearts and faith plummet to the ground. Now is the time to gird up our Faith, and like Abraham, believe God for the impossible according to His good Will.
Answered prayers come to those who "Ask..Seek..Knock".
Mat 7:7,8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
If you would like to share your faith stories here...just click on "comments" and share what God has done for you! We can build up our own library of Faith!
Tip for the week: At bedtime or naptime children often have a hard time settling down to sleep or are afraid by themselves. Play some children's worship & praise music C.D.'s. They will have something to listen to that will keep their mind on the Lord as they drift off to sleep.
